The Steampowered forums use to have great content about this, but they recently started hurassing and deleting content that showed how to do it (the mods did this to Whisper's post about high tickrates in Source because it started too many threads asking about it). I was going to point you over there, but I can't now: Oh well, there goes valve destroying stuff again.

Basically:

1) Run windows media player on the console
2) add -tickrate 100 +fps_max 600 on the command line
3) make sure your rates are high enough to allow the added updates
4) set maxupdaterate 120

That's what we do, and they run great.

alright so im sorta catching on here.

1) Run windows media player on the console ---Are you talking about the console with in Media player? or source? If on media player where to i locate it?

2) add -tickrate 100 +fps_max 600 on the command line --- I've read about fps_max 1000? should i put 1000 or 600?
3) make sure your rates are high enough to allow the added updates --- Im sure the updates have gone through just fine - and do you know where i can find information regarding other rates for the server?

Thanks again you've been a huge help
