I have been with server matrix for a year running my online game.

I upload and download via email, but I need to take a massive chunck down to my home dt, and was wondering if they already have ftp access, and if not how do i link my computer to my server so that I can dl without messing with emails and cutting up chuncks of information which will take days?

Generally a Servermatrix server doesn't come with an FTP server unless you've ordered a control panel. You're more than welcome to install your own FTP server and use it as you wish. icon_smile.gif

I have a control panel thingie but ahhh here is the but I always find life full of them, anywayyyys I had a huge server crash and wiped everything so I lost all my passwords because being female (does not mean 100% of us are all the same) I figured keeping it on my computer made sence (know knows this is a big mistake), so I email and email for my pass to get on my control pannel, but I get no reply no pass, so now I can't even place a ticket in, I can't phone you are usa I am uk, you have the same problem, and even though I have sent emails with all details humanly possible I still have no reply, soo If I can do this huge chunck move via control pannel I would love to if only I could get to it.

This is what I run the game on via you icon_smile.gif:

Intel Pentium Processor: Super Server 2.8 GHz
Primary IDE Hard Drive: 40GB Hard Drive
Secondary IDE Hard Drive: 40 GB Hard Drive
Drive Controller: IDE
RAM: 1024 MG RAM
IP Addresses *: 5 IP Adresses
Bandwidth: 1200 GM Bandwith
Uplink Port Speed: 10 Mbps Uplink
Operating System: Windows 2000 Server
Term of Service: Contract Month to Month

Another thing I see there is 5 IP addresses and another silly question, what are they for and what can I do with them? icon_razz.gif

Wow.....

You need to install some FTP server of some sorts and probably get a server guru onboard to help you out.

Server access issues are best handled over the phone if you don't have your Orbit login info handy. Give us a call, leave a callback number, and we'll call you right back to take the cost of the call.

You can do whatever you like with them. icon_smile.gif Some apps require dedicated IPs (SSL based sites for example). Its fine though if you don't use your extra IP addresses.

 Back again so sorry,

Ok I downloaded cute ftp onto the server and the same on my computer for peer to peer but I can connect to the server no problem but not to my computer from the server *cries*, so I figure mine to the server is fine, I establish a connection no problem at all, all i get is / and if I try to change directory so I can download this 200mb file im desperate to get:

CODE
*** CuteFTP 7.0 - build Jun  6 2005 ***

STATUS:> Transferring file "/C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/My Documents"...

COMMAND:>CWD /C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator

550 /C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

ERROR:> Requested action not taken (e.g., file or directory not found, no access).

ERROR:> Remote file not found "/C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/My Documents".

IIRC FTP is a one way transaction. One system is the client, and one is the server. I wouldn't expect your server to be able to connect back to your home computer. I'd also try a different FTP program. I'm not a big fan of cuteftp. Try something like filezilla on the server and smartftp at home. Things should work fine. icon_smile.gif

Ok I downloaded the two you said were good and the one from here connected to the server without any problems, thats smartftp, then it shows a little yellow folder with on it, but I see no files, if I try to tell it to go to for eg.
C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/My Documents it tells me
550 C:/: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect
.

I only want to bring my game down without cutting it in small peaces and emailing it to my self icon_redface.gif

I put the other one you recommended on the server but I dont' know why its there unless the two ftp's can have a chat and one will send it to the other.

Copy the file you want into the default FTP folder.
Then connect to the FTP server and transfer it.

Thanks for all your help, I give in im going to take the game down and cut it up in small chuncks, I don't have a default ftp folder, its just showing , I upload every day to my website etc its the server not letting me see files, I have been on it for a few days it would be on my desktop by now if I had just sliced it in peaces and spent two days mailing it to me.

But thanks for trying.
