"As a part of our quarterly facilities testing and inspection, we will be conducting a full-load generator test at our DLLSTX2 datacenter on Wednesday, April 19th, 2006, from 0800hrs to 1100hrs CDT."
Anyone else at DLLSTX2 a little worried about this?
That is 8am to 11am, right?
What IF something drops power for a split second and my server goes down at 10am right in the middle of a busy morning?
I guess I'm just a little worried, thats all. Most tests like this are early morning hours or late in the evening.

We'd rather run these tests when we have a full staff in house that are bright eyed and awake than a smaller overnight shift. We run these tests every quarter. There's nothing to worry about. We send the notice out to let you know that we're doing it. We have a bank of UPS units that can power the datacenter independent of a generator or external power grid for some time. They can easily handle the split second while we cut to generator power. Don't worry too much. We've been running generator tests for a while and no ones noticed yet.

That does make perfect sense. Thanks.

Well, at least you guys actually test it so when theres a real power outage, the servers will be up.

So long as it doesn't turn into that incident quite a while back where some fuse/breaker on the UPS went kaboom and took out a datacenter or two =)
