So here is my problem...Using Win2k3

I have two users already logged into my machine, an admin account and a user account.

I want to add a third suer account. I add the user and then add them to the Remote Desktop Users group.

When I try to login with remote desktop to that account I get the following error:

"The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections."

I have searched through the Terminal Services ConfigurationConnections and have not found anything too helpful. I did notice that it does have a setting under the "Network Adapter" tab that shows where you can setting connections. The options are Unlimited Connections, which is greyed out and Maximum Connections which is set to 2. Is this where my problem is?

Below this it says: "This server is configured in thed efault Remote Desktop mode for remote administrattion, which allows a maximum of two simulatneous remote connections."

Does that setting have more to do with the fact of actually having two clients trying to use the box at once and a third client be shunned if they were to try and connect.

I'd love some help with this! Thanks icon_smile.gif

Yes, that's exactly it. In Remote Desktop for administration mode, you can connect at most 2 users. If you want to connect more, you have to run full blown terminal services and buy the appropriate user CALs as well as the TS CALs.

A potentially dangerous workaround is to have a user connect to the system console via mstsc.exe -console. Errors and various important things tend to show up there, so I wouldn't tell a user about the console if you could avoid it.

I use /console for all my connections to my servers, and let the non-admin people that dick around with the servers use up the other TS connections. I haven't told them about the /console switch, because I am mean like that...

Thanks guys for the help!

I will just let the user login in on an existing account. It is the best solution to this.

how about you use the console and then you have two terminal licenses left over for users.

Or, you can always pay Microsoft a large sum of money and use terminal server licensing.

Its nice to be precise with commands - the switch is /console not -console with it being microsoft not unix. Also with it being microsoft they seem to have changed it, it is now mtsc /admin from the cmd prompt and the user will need to be set up with admin permissions on the server. Still works though. As usual type /? to see the options, console is not there.
