Hi -

I was wondering if anyone knows what TP set-up is with nameservers as presumably they don't use BIND?

Has anyone got experience of running 1000+ zones on nameservers, does this work ok? What solutions are there for running loads (e.g. 100,000+ zones?)?

Cheers, any help is gratefully received!

We use bind.

Oh come on, don't be lying to us, we know you use MS DNS on NT4.

No no no, we use teh super "DNS server"

CODE
[gbock gbock]$ dig version.bind chaos txt @ns1.theplanet.com | grep TXT.*\"

version.bind.           0       CH      TXT     "DNS server"

Level3 really cares:

CODE
[gbock gbock]$ dig version.bind chaos txt @4.2.2.1 | grep TXT.*\"

version.bind.           0       CH      TXT     "If you have a legitimate reason for requesting this info, please contact hostmaster@Level3.net"

SBC is only slightly scared:

CODE
[gbock gbock]$ dig version.bind chaos txt @68.94.157.1 | grep TXT.*\"

version.bind.           0       CH      TXT     "BIND"

I like ev1's name server response:

CODE
[gbock gbock]$ dig version.bind chaos txt @NS1.RACKSHACK.NET | grep TXT.*\"

version.bind.           0       CH      TXT     "surely you must be joking"

Bellsouth doesn't care one bit:

CODE
[gbock gbock]$ dig version.bind chaos txt @NS.BELLSOUTH.NET | grep TXT.*\"

version.bind.           0       CH      TXT     "9.2.5"
