Full Version: RAM Price Changes?

Just put in an RFQ last night for a RAM upgrade on an I365 machine, and noticed that the price had gone up.

Anyone know when this took effect? Must have missed the memo...lol

Are you referring to the one-time payment or the monthly ones ?

I've checked back the prices of the upgrade I did back in July and October 2005 now and the one-time pricing seems to be the same.

512mb upgrade for SM - $150
1gb upgrade for SM/i365 - $300
1gb upgrade for TP - $400

Those were the prices I paid earlier and they are the same now.

However, if you are referring to the monthly fees for RAM, I have no idea. Sorry.

I was checking on a 1GB upgrade for an I365 machine. I was quoted:

$400 one time
or
$15 setup & $50 per month

I did an upgrade in December for the same things, and it was $300 one time at that time.

We're definately in the wrong line of business...

Was it for the same model server ?
AreYouServed
Yep. Both DX28's
eddy2099
Ah, the DX28 should be the same hardware as my TC P2800 and most probably should have been $400. The earlier one might have been misquoted. icon_smile.gif

Hrm...damned "Delete Thread" button isn't working...lol

Funny...support never answered that part of my ticket...wonder if I'll be getting a surprise from accounting...

:o

Thanks eddy

I wonder if they'll lower the prices on hard drive upgrades. Yes I'm aware of the lifetime replacement n'such but still $250 for a 200gig ATA drive is a bit much. Hell I'd be happy to pay .90 cents or even a dollar a gig for the drive.

Just seems like after a year, the price should change. *shrugs* I can't drop that $$$ right now anyway.

I guess it is how they make a profit. I don't even think I spent $150 for a gig of ECC ram for one of my Dell PowerEdge 1600 servers and only get 512 of non ecc here.

Not to change the topic, but I find it odd that there is still a RAM shortage for months now.

Well they have to make something so its not like I'm asking for a gift. I'm just curious how thier pricing structure can stay the same with improvements/upgraded products are widely available.

And I'm not trying to be ungreatful, I'm just pointing out the fact the upgrade prices have not changed for the last 10 months (that I can recall). I'm just curious if this was ment to be, or if there are some updates coming along sometime. icon_cool.gif

...and just so we're clear, I'm not desperate to know, I'm just looking for fuel to feed my 'Curiousity Engine'. (ooooh, that sounds like a good name for something! I need to write that one down!)

They actually did drop the pricing for the 40gb Harddisk option. It used to be $100 and now it is $40. I guess only when the 40gb get axed then the next harddisk on the line would be in line for the price cut. As long as there is value in the higher end harddisk, I believe they will keep the pricing as it is not. Can't cut it down too much or else it would hurt their monthly pricing for the same option.
