On Friday, January 27th, lawyers from Softlayer contacted Planet and claimed that certain improper and "illegal" network activities originated from Planet's network and threatened Planet with legal action, the second such complaint from Softlayer in less than a week. Planet carefully analyzed all logs provided by Softlayer's lawyers and determined that the activity was not, in fact, improper or illegal, but merely consisted of two routine traceroutes and isolated instances of standard web traffic to Softlayer's public web site home page originating from Planet's network space.

Due to the extreme and unclear nature of Softlayer's repeated threats of legal action, Planet determined that it would be advisable as a precautionary measure to initiate a provisional block of transmissions from Planet's servers to Softlayer's address space until this matter is resolved with Softlayer's lawyers. This action has been taken only in response to Softlayer's repeated complaints and threats of legal action, and would not have been taken except for this reason.

We are confident that this matter can be resolved with Softlayer soon.

Sincerely.

The management team of The Planet Internet Services, Inc.
