First,
A few weeks ago I was helping spread the Call of Duty 2 Demo over http, and I
had a ticket opened about excessive bandwidth usage. About this, I had posted
the url to alot of my friends so they could grab it because all the main sites
had gotten backlogged to several hours wait time. Alot of them have comcast, etc
and can download up to 8-10mbps each.

Well, I had said what I was doing and such, ticket was closed.
The demo was still going up at about 30mbps-40mbps or so, and another ticket was
opened, this time a planet tech went in the server and started ending
processes that had been running. Now, I can totally understand that
they want to protect the network and such, but stopping processes
of running gameservers, voice servers, etc after I had said what it was for in
another ticket that was opened isn't my idea of fun, as I had
a bunch of mad people paying for downed servers for a bit.

My question about this, is there a certain time limit for going over 6mbps?
I hadn't even gotten near my 2000GB /mo limit and they started ending processes
even after I said what it was for.

Also, second question is about bittorrent.
From what I understand, or have read, Bittorrent can be used as long as the
content is legal? I'd of liked to help seed a cod2 demo torrent, but I wasn't
sure about it. So I took the http route instead.

In the future, i'd like to help seed game demos, movie trailers and such. (all legal of course)

And if it is legal, and I started using over 6mbps, would they come
on the server and start ending processes again?

Just want to be sure before I do anything with bittorrent.

If anybody offhand knows or could help, would appriciate it, thanks.

(and sorry if this isn't in the right area, wasn't sure where it would go.)

I am not sure about bit torrent, however they shouldn't cut you off for going over a certain Mbps. You will have to watch how much bandwidth you have used or you will use all and more of your allotted amount and that will cost you.

But I have used 85+ Mbps for several hours once and never go pulled.

They don't care as far as I know. Hell they probably want you to go and use that much so they can bill you for overage icon_smile.gif lol

Heh, I didnt say they cut me off or anything. Just that I started getting tickets opened when i was transferring around 30-40mbps for a bit, on the second one a tech went in the server and started ending processes because it was thought to be malicious, etc. Even though they weren't and I had even stated it in a previous ticket. They ended up ending a few gameservers, voice servers, etc.

Now I don't know if I should host a demo again because I can't have my customers gameservers being end tasked just because of a spike for a few hours. It's not like I was going near my monthly limit for bandwidth or anything.

Can you please PM me a ticket number so we can further investigate this issue?

It sounds like they were trying to be helpful and help you avoid any bandwidth overages. A mistake in this case, true, but I think the heart is there! They just need to be reminded to check for any outstanding tickets regarding the issue. icon_smile.gif
