Full Version: How do reserved slots work?

I was just wondering if anyone has messed with reserved slots for BF2. I know how to set them up and all that fun stuff.

I was wondering if when you set up say 4 on a 32 man server, if it lets 32 people join, and if someone with a reserved slots wants to join, if it will kick a person. Or if it just keeps the server at 28 and will only let reserved slots open.

If you have a server with 32 slots and 2 reserved slots...it will only let 30 people join the server and save those 2 slots.

Now getting it to work is the confusing part. We added our names to the config and everything but still no go icon_cry.gif

I added some names to the lsit, i believe the server has to be restarted so the names are actually loading into the server memory. ill have to wait till our server fills back up to test it.

Since its a config file change and AFAIK the server only reads those when it starts you'll need to restart the server.

Is there a proper format for entering names or is it just one name per line?

I tried using the rcon code but when I checked the file, the names I added weren't there.

I think its as follows:

reservedSlots.addNick =GSF=FreekBoy

(Using my account as a example of course wink.gif)

if you want them done temporarily...add them through rcon. For it to register everytime the server restarts...you have to add it to the cfg file.

Just add exactly the same rcon command to the cfg file

I can explain it better for you if you'd like to MSN or XFIRE me. Kind of in a hurry atm =)

From what I can see it will kick players if your name is in the reserved slot.
If thats the case I do not want to do that because its rude.

mm_reserver.kickMessage "Sorry '%s' your are being kicked ( reserved slots reached )"

That's interesting.

I set my reserve slots to 1 and entered my name in the reservered file. I noticed that the server did hit 50 today but I haven't been home so I haven't tried it out yet. Tonight hopefully.

It does seem kind of rude, but on our server, our welcome message says that we kicked for members so people should expect it. The only thing is, I wonder how it would determine who get's kicked. Hopefully lowest score first and not random.

I would agree that it seems rude. But then again you do pay for the server...

Not minding the rude issue and agreeing that you're paying for it, I wanted the reserved number to still get at server maximum capacity then kick someone when you wanted to enter, not hold the slots for only when you do join.

Well, I added 1 reserved slot and put my name in the list this morning. The server filled up throughout the day, 50 out of 50. When I got home at 6pm PST there were posts on our web site that only 30 people could join our 50 slot server and it was giving a msg about people not being on the reserved list.

I disabled it, restarted the server and it's ok now.

I think I'll wait until the bugs are worked out icon_sad.gif .

I have a 40 slot server, I set the reserved to 8. The server blocks additional public players at 24. The math doesn't add up, 8 reserved from 40 is 32 public spots. I disabled it. The server still didn't allow reserved members to connect. Names were in the con file prior to starting the server.

Frustrating... I'm disabling this for now... Anyones servers rebooting consitantly when using BF2CC?? With the patch I now have 3-5 reboots a day. Logs show nothing, just service has stopped, the it restarts.

The reason it is only allowing 24 members is because of the map size. The reserved slot.cfg is looking at the map size...not the server size. Hense, if you have a 40 slot server on a 32 player map with 8 reserved slots...32-24=8

I figured that out after testing it on Wake Island...a 64 member server.

You've got to be kidding me... Geez.
AreYouServed
Which file do you make your reserved slot entries into?
klaude
<your bf2 server root>/mods/bf2/settings/ReservedSlots.con

Yeash...guess it would help if I put on my glasses...

Thanks Kevin.
