Ok so I'm trying to setup MRTG to monitor a Switch (3COM 3226) which supports snmp, but I am so far unsure of how to successfully set it up, I don't see much information on this as I've been searching for sometime now.
I know how to install MRTG on regular servers but on a switch I've never done before so I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help as I'd greatly appreciate it.

Usually, you have to enable the snmp public community (and its best to name it something besides public), on the switch. I know we have to do that with the ciscos we have. Then you can poll it via community@ipaddr.
As how to enable that service on the switch, I am not sure. I dont have a 3com switch here.

it has snmp service but I'm not sure how to use it with mrtg to monitor the differnet ports on the switch (different connections) also I'm not sure if I have to setup Trap Managment which is an option I see here with two columns (Trap Destination Address, Community String)

Might check the documentation and help groups with 3COM
...and learn to be more patient. Not getting a reply to that unique of a problem in 3 hours is to be expected, especially from a forum not affiliated with the product or your task.

I've checked the documentation, so far it hasn't helped with what I need to do, no need to tell me to be patient, I would just expect there to be plenty of network guru's around here who might know.

Well try contacting 3COM. If you have a switch of that magnitude, then you should have tech support. If you don't, then ... good luck.
