Full Version: Does Helm pick up changes made on the server?

Hi,
I couldn't get the FTP to work using Helm and after reading several documentations about virtual directories etc. I finally managed to get some ftp accounts working setting them up directly via remote console on the server. Now I'm a little worried does Helm recognize those changes and incorporate them or does it have its own configuration file and maybe even kills the ftps I've installed on the server? Cause I do not want to have to go through all that again just to get ftp access to my server lol

The fact that you're having that much trouble getting Helm to work with MSFTP makes me think you've been doing something wrong this whole time. MSFTP is literally "install-and-go" with Helm. There's no configuration work to do except for the initial permissions on c:inetpubftproot, but I'd class that as another step altogether since I set my permissions all at once.

To answer your question, no, Helm will not pick up changes you have made to the server as it doesn't read the config in real-time. All settings are drawn from an SQL Server database.

well i think it's the whole permission setting stuff that still gets me confused. I had set up ftp accounts in Helm it seemed really easy but then when i tried them i kept getting "home directory not accessible" and then you guys posted me a link to an article and that was how to do it directly on the server so i followed that and that way i got the ftp to work.

I saw in the user database i have HELMFTPUSERS and HELMWEBUSERS but like I said the permission settings still seem to be a tough one for me. For example I don't know why on the web I can access myserver.com/index.html but if I just type in myserver.com i get "you are not authorized to view this page". i didn't think Windows was so much tougher to work than Linux but i need it because i need the windows media server so i have to learn this stuff i guess no alternative icon_smile.gif
