Full Version: Debian 3.1 and Plesk ready yet?
The Planet Forums > General > Pre-Sales Questions

we are itching to get a Debian 3.1 box going now that Plesk supports it...

is SM ready to support it yet?

Even if you dont have an image ready, can I order it anyway and have you do the install manually? Or you do the debian install and I do the plesk install and open a ticket to have the plesk key installed?

unrelated question: we haven't decided between theplanet or SM yet... but we have a few SM machines... so if we go w/ theplanet this time do we not get our reseller discounts?

so... am I beating a dead horse here or will ever support plesk on Debian 3.1? If I install it myself will you at least put the key in for me... I am wanting to order a new Total Control server with Debian and Plesk and I have been patiently waiting for theplanet to allow me to run this setup...

Have you spoken to Sales about this or just asked here and expected an answer?

Last time i talked to them about it was on the phone a few months ago. I'm not trying to sound bitchy. I've been a happy customer for years and have all my servers here, which is why i'm really hoping they will support this configuration or at least just give me a nod or a wink saying that they will install the plesk key for me if I install plesk. which is all i really need, i have almost never requested software support. If I order the server and install plesk and open a ticket to get the key installed and they don't do it, how much money have I wasted? Plesk is unfortunately a requirement for me as my customers expect it.

this topic is "Pre-Sales Questions" which is exactly what this is... so... do you have any info one way or the other or are you just one of those forum-dwellers who reads every post and likes to go around making snappy remarks?

p.s. in case you couldnt figure it out that's a rhetorical question... so please don't feel obligated to answer... in fact, please don't.

Sorry, thought I was trying to be objective. Maybe I need to provide an example, one you can relate to your situation.

If you knock at someone's door, and wait for an answer, but nobody is home, do you continue to knock? Maybe for another few minutes, maybe come back in a bit incase they were in the shower, but do you keep knocking for 3 days on end? How about 7 months with no answer? Maybe its time to try something different.

The people you need to talk to, as I indicated earlier, are usually not lurking on the forums and are certainly not available like they would be if one was to call them directly. If you're only looking for an answer here then fine, but since you didn't get one the first time you asked, and have pushed aside a recommendation for getting a FASTER answer, then don't expect one anytime soon, once again.

How come more of the sales team don't read the fourm? Seems like the planet should buy everyone a computer so they can have the presales forum open between calls to answer questions from those looking to buy servers icon_smile.gif

You know, it wouldn't be too bad of an idea, but if you spread yourself too thin, you can create other problems.

Now you're deal with Orbit Tickets, phone calls, emails, faxes, IM programs, IRC, TeamSpeak, LiveChat, message boards...when do you say enough is enough?

We know they listen, but cannot afford to make it a priority at this point. Hell if they can pay me a decent wage, I'D come work for them, and answer these questions all day long! But I'm not banking on it! icon_razz.gif

sorry.. guess i was in a bit of a touchy mood.

i will call them again... but i already know the answer... for now anyway. i'm just trying to be a "squeaky wheel" in hopes that the right person will read my posts and say "absolutely we can do that" after all, if I install plesk, it only takes them 5 minutes to put the key file in place, i'm sure a tech would say "no problem" but sales reps (not knowing how simple it really is to do) would not agree to it...
