Full Version: Firewall Selection Help Needed

I am currently experiencing severe spam email problems.

Setup includes the following:
LINKSYS WRV54G Router as the front end
Network Associates WEBSHIELD SMTP
Exchange 2003

I need to configure a rule that accepts emails only from an IP range who is our spam filtering provider.

Is there a firewall product hardware/software which can handle that?

We are a small business with about 75 users.

Thanks for the help

I believe configuring your mail server should handle that.

By the way, which mail server are you using ?

We have a Linksys router WRV54G thru which all traffic comes in. The emails are directed to Webshield SMTP Version 4.5MR2 (from Network Associates). This then delivers it to Exchange Server 2003. Right now, I have about 100 emails per hour hitting this Webshield SMTP server and 99% of it spam emails. We have a spam filtering service provider. They sent us an emails asking that we accept emails only from their range of IPs (2xx.xx.xxx.x to 2xx.xx.xxx.xxx).

I cannot see anything in the Webshield SMTP server configuration or the Linksys router's configuration that will enable be to set a policy that will accept email traffic from a specific range of IP address.

Hello, you PMed me asking for help, I didn't know what you were looking for. I'm assuming the box that has the mail server on it is windows? If so try throwing up a linux box to run mail with Exim or a mail program similiar and enable RBL Spam Lookup Block Lists

Any mail server app should be able to look up RBL Blocklists if yours doesn't I would suggest switching to something that does.

Our current servers use this setup and it has killed all spam as of the moment. We were getting around 500 an hour on our servers, until we put this into place now it's still coming in but it's being blocked via the RBL
