Full Version: Help: Lame Nameservers on CPanel

I have a bit of a strange issue with nameservers on 2 cpanel servers i run, one is here at SM and the other is at HE

the server here has 2 nameservers

ns1.
ns2

and the server at HE has n3. and ns4

now ive set it up so that ns2 is actually an IP on the server at HE and ns4 is on an IP on the server here at SM

the problem i get now is that ns2 reports as lame and ns4 doesnt work at all

this setup has been this way for quite some time and ive checked and restarted named just to be sure, but still the errors persist so i currently have no working 2nd nameserver for either server

anyone have any suggestions?

You have to set up some sort of dns clustering or a system to get the updates to each machine.

I understand that i should setup the clustering, but that should have no effect on th fact that i run the 4 nameservers on 4 IP's on the 2 servers...

The reason that they are lame is because they dont have any information about the zone you are requesting.
Snowman
right so youre saying that becuase i dont currently have clustering occuring this is causing the problem?

so should i have all our servers syncing with each other or just the top 2 servers syncing with each other?

i am confused because we have the same setup on another 2 servers at SM with a different set of nameservers and its not an issue (these 2 servers are not clustered either)
