I did it months ago and do it for many others as requested. It's a very easy upgrade if you follow these steps:

1) Run /scripts/updatenow (and /scripts/upcp if you're out of date) in SSH to ensure you have all the latest cPanel files.

2) Change MySQL verion from 4.0 to 4.1 in WHM

3) Run /scripts/mysqlup in SSH

4) Run /scripts/perlinstaller --force Bundle::DBD::mysql in SSH

5) Set MySQL root password in WHM's "MySQL Root Password"

6) Rebuilt PHP in WHM or /scripts/easyapache for PHP to make use of the new MySQL libs.

7) Add old-passwords under [mysqld] in /etc/my.cnf

And I noticed a good amount of speed increase and had no problems thus far.

Thanks for the above directions. Worked like a charm. THe only problem I had was accessing the mirrors to get the mysql update.

After I got past that, everything seems to be working great!

Thanks

ok. so maybe I am found 1 lil issue. In Cpanel I can no longer see anyones database, nor can I (or other client accounts) create them. I can launch phpmyadmin and see the databases and access them. My Folks websites are running fine, so I know the code can acess them. I just dont see them under cpanel.

Any thoughts?

I think I might have goofed this one up, what exactly do I need to do here, or more to the point, what does "old passwords" mean?

Also take a look at this thread:

Drill down to neonix post as your issue looks similar to the one he had. This was a perl 5.0.8 problem that requires an upgrade to 5.8.7.

The above linked fixed my issue of not being able to see database's in cpanel anymore via client logins.

p.s. must have cpanel forum account to view that link
