Hi,

I'm currently using the spamd software on my server but people are still complaining about receiving 20-30 spams a day. We have new business cards with our emails so changing them is not an option.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good spam software to install on top of cpanel?

Thanks!

I use ASSP... http://assp.sourceforge.net

It works quite well for me... but it does require training at the start. However, once started, I've found that it's very low maintenance.

Search for some of my other posts on assp and you should find more info on the settings needed for using it with cpanel (exim). It's pretty simple to setup though.

Spamassassin (spamd) works very very well when properly configured. It's catching 495 / 500 spams for me each day.

Make sure you add the rules from the SpamAssassin Rules Emporium, and take the time to tweak the scores for certain tests.

I also have my Spamassassin threshold set very low at 4.2 and have less than 1 in 5000 false postitives. (But I made sure to whitelist all important addresses!)

thanks for the help.

For some reason when I enabled spam assasin it wouldn't stay on. I was constantly getting errors that it was shutting down and restarting.

SM went in and reinstalled it which gave me a updated set of rules. It's working great!

I've tried doing some searching but I can't find a simple explanation of updating the spam assasin rules myself?

What is the easiest way for me to update the rules myself and maybe even set it up to do it automaticaly?

Thanks!

Greetings,

in addition to SPAM-Assasin, why not fight some spam before it hits your serve rinboxes?
I recently implemented RBL lists on my RHE/RH9/cpanel machines
following those artciles:

Like i said earlier The point is to reject majority of spam before they hit your or costumer inbox, I have about 98% acuracy in rejecting spam, with under 1% false positives. Saves you some server power too as spamassasin can be memory greedy when processing large quantities of emails.

Another related and VERY good tutorial form the makers of RVSKIN

This one maybe somewhat tricky, but for $30 they will install it for you, its well worth it.
