Hello,
im new here and im not sure if it is the right place for this topic....

I have a question, i want to buy a dedicated server here on matrix it would be some linux with a plesk. And now my question. What do i get? just clean machine with just linux and control panel installed on it or a machine that is kinda configured, visible on the Internet. kind configured... i mean can i just use contol panel to add new users, domains etc and everything and everything should work or do i have to configure whole machine before i start to use it (i mean apache, mysql etc)

and what exactly is this silver managed plan? icon_smile.gif

I hope you understand me icon_smile.gif

Thanks for all your answers

When you recieve a server from us it will be setup and public facing and wil have all the option that your chose installed and ready to rock and roll. What will not be setup is the config options in your control panel, secutiry and other accounts in addition to root and any accont that your control panel creates.

Silver managed plan is our basic service plan that allow you the following:
Ping Monitoring.
Network IDS.
Onsite Hands and Eyes.
O/S updates and patches

These details can be viewed here: http://www.servermatrix.com/managed_services.html

ACT quickly, all of our server have $0 setup!

Just a friendly word of advice...
If the server is for personal use only, then have fun. You'll love it.
But if you're hosting others or important sites, you should go into your first server willing to spend the time to really learn how things work, keep it patched, harden it, install security programs (firewall, mod_security, etc.). Otherwise, don't be surprised when your box gets rooted or when something breaks because of an update and everything is down and you're frustrated. It's fine if you don't know anything going in, as long as you're willing to spend the time to ask the questions and learn. If not, I fear you'll be in for a frustrating experience down the road. Again, I don't mean to rain on your parade or anything - I think you'll have a great experience with your first server here as long as you realize it is an investment in time, now or later.

Jeff,
it wouldn't be my first sever. Now i have one in other company but it doesent work well for me... so i need more like managed server... i was thinking that with this silver managed plan this server would be kind of managed server..i can see that this package icludes updates, patches and up to 3 monitored services...
or am i wrong?

Well, it all depends on what your definition of managed service. With the server plan, they will help you apply official patches from Redhat or Windows which you could always do that yourself.

The monitoring service is pretty much active pinging but that is about all. Something like what http://www.websitepulse.com/ is doing except it is ping internally.

They may alert you when your server is down but you still need to decide what to do.

Under the Silver management plan, you still need to do locking down of unused services, install a firewall and ensure that your system is not vulerable. They may help you by advising you on how to configure your server but it is not part and parcel of the silver managed service.
