For the last couple of days FTP connections to various sites on one particular server have been very slow. Dreamweaver sits there displaying "Waiting For Server", then often doesn't get a connection. Server load is near zero, so that can't be the problem.

I can't think of any changes that have been made that could be the cause of this.

Do a traceroute to your server and from your server and see if there is any latency at any of the hops.

may want to give your ftp server a restart
you can restart it in WHM or ssh..

or give it a system reboot

Or you may want to check that you have a resolvable PTR record for the IP that you are coming from. By default, your ftp server will try and resolve that and will take forever to authenticate you if it can't.
