I purchased a new copy of Battlefield 1942 (World War II Anthology) from Electronics Botique over the weekend (old disc was a wee bit scratched).

I just got around to putting the disc in, and during the installation process, AVG Resident Shield came up with the following warning:

CODE
Virus Detected!

While opening file: D:eRegBATTLEFIELD 1942_EZ.EXE

Virus identified Win32/Mkar.K

Anyone had an experience close to this? Googling turned up nothing. I'm 100% sure the system itself is clean, I did a clean Windows XP Pro install yesterday...

Anytime you install a game it recommends you turn off any anti virus software, due to some files might alert the software. But no, its not a virus file, your safe....
JustGags
Ok, anti-virus scanning is disabled. I now receive additional errors while trying to do this installation.

Everytime the installer gets to copying the file called "Battlefield 1942_EZ.exe," a message appears on the screen saying:

CODE
Setup is not complete. If you quit the setup program now, the components you requested to add/remove will not be installed/uninstalled.

You may run the setup program at a later time to complete the operations.

Are you sure you want to quit the setup?

Yes  No

If I click "No", the message continued to pop up indefinitely. If I click "Yes", I get the following message:

CODE
Specified component cannot be found in the media. An attempt was made to access a compnent that does not exist in the named media.

So, sounds like it might be a disc issue? It looks clean to me. icon_confused.gif

Problem is, I purchased it at an EB about 1300 miles away.

Update:

I just tried the CD in another computer of mine, and the files read and copied fine... icon_confused.gif

should be able to take it back to any eb store. most stores let you do this.

Yep, and you should be able to find a new BF1942 disc for about $5.00 since I got two used ones (In new condition) a few months ago for that much.

My AVG just did the EXACT SAME THING this morning.
Guspaz
Mine (AVG) did it with C&C Generals, on a file called something like "C&C Generals_EZ" and I think it was the same virus.

I've run several full system scans since Generals was installed, and it just popped up now.

AVG must have decided that these electronic registration programs have virus-like behaviour. I'm down with that, I don't want those things on my system anyhow once I've registered.
ECF
It has something to do with AVG's newest update. Mine picked up on BF Vietnam's registration program as well, which I have had installed for ever. Some virus must have a similar file structure to EA's registration programs.
Guspaz
It's EA. There's just as good a chance that it IS a virus icon_razz.gif
