Full Version: What does IP rejected under APF firewall actually see?

I've got APF set up, and I've got BFD adding IP's. My question is, what does someone, whos IP address is on the list, see when they try to visit a domain on the server?

Say I manually add someone's IP to the list. What will happen when they try to visit a site on the server?

Is it a blank page? Page not found error? Some sort of message? What?

Is there any way to customize whatever it is they see?

Thanks for any info. icon_smile.gif

They'll see the same as if you typed in any IP that doesn't have anything listening on port 80. For example, under IE they'll see

No. Think about it, they can't connect to your server because you blocked the IP, so how do you plan to serve up a page to them?

If a person's IP address was in the deny_hosts.rules, they will have no access to the server unless they go through some proxies (which alot get blocked by BFD anyway).

If they were to try to access any port from a banned IP, it would just time out, as as far as their PC knows...the IP has no server at the other end.

I didn't have any idea how it would work - that's why I asked. icon_wink.gif
