Can someone tell me how to update clam av. My IT guy is out of town and I know very little about this. Simple explanation would be good. I went to the website but wasn't able to understand the directions for linux. Looking for the simplest way to do this.
Thanks...
You should be able to update your virus list by running the 'freshclam' command. Run 'man freshclam' for more info.

Hmmm, you may want to wait for the IT guy to get back.
Seriously though, are you looking to update the virus defs, or upgrade the program? Are you familiar with SSH ? If you are familiar with SSH, then the above command ' freshclam ' will do the trick to update your virus definitions.

update virus defs is what I need to do. I know a bit of ssh. is it more involved than logging in an entering freshclam

Easy as that, login to the box as root. type the command freshclam
(you may even want to ask your IT guy to create a cronjob that'll run freshclam on a daily basis)
Good Luck!
Well the freshclam utility is the easiest and fastest way to update your virus defs. Like I said, run 'freshclam' from the server as root once you've SSH'd in.

I've never encountered that, so I won't be much help.
Were you the 'root' user when you issued that command?

If you run cPanel, then this will now have beend updated. If not there is a guide on the cpanel forums as to how to update it manually.

How often does WHM update their version of clamav? I get the e-mail every morning about 0.83 being out of date and to get 0.84. Can I count on it being part of a base update to WHM sometime soon?
I did try to upgrade clamav manually, and all went well... so it seemed. But I was not getting mail despite no errors or indications of problems.
Thanks!

For those interested... WHM just added ClamAV 0.84 to an update released this afternoon... What timing!

Has anyone had a problem using the 'freshclam' command lately?
For some reason you get this via ssh
'-bash: freshclam: command not found'
Yes, my install is 'up2date - u clamav'
