Mr. Crosby added that The Planet began outfitting the new facility, dubbed DLLSTX5, on January 1, 2005, and expects to begin initial operations within the next several weeks. He said the company signed a 10-year lease on the facility.

I guess we could keep our fingers crossed as this is the start of the new week and in a couple of hours time, the new work day would officially begin. They seems to be in the habit of coming out with big announcements at the end of the work day.. I guess things gets more exciting with the suspsense.

If you need a new server, buy one. There's still space in the other 2 datacenters yet.

I have no doubts of that fact. My interests lies in possible coming deals to be had with the expected opening. I'm nearly ready for 2 more boxes at this point but I'm holding out and working the pants off my xeons as best I can until that time. I believe that there is a good possibility for some kind of sweet deal to existing clients in the works and so I'm standing in line with the rest of them awaiting news of the activation.

They'd prefer you to buy your server now, rather than in a sale though
If you business needs it, buy it, if not, then what's the hurry about getting the new DC open?
RaynServ
Feb 14 2005, 11:52 AM
It's a careful balance of needs vs wants. I need it but what I want is worth the wait. Nothing is suffering at this point but it's getting close. Business is business for all parties involved but there is no existing "grand-father" clause in this datacenter. So I trust that patience will be my virtue.

I have to be honest, I don't care about new sales. I can't afford another server or any added services, and the new deal is unlikely to be better than the current one SM is giving me.

you guys should of made a documentry called "The Making Of The New DC" and shown the world what really happeneds to get a DC up and running, with servers blowing up here and there, crazzed techs running round try to fix everything, could of been a big hit at the cinemas, no acting required either

The price of one ServerMatrix machine..... $250

Getting to the see the technician freak out with the opening of a new datacenter......PRICELESS!

I found a stash of pictures we had taken of our D2 facility a while back yesterday. I'll try to aget approval and have them posted here. The netcams do not do our datacenter justice. I know it's not D5, however, I thought these pictures were great. I'll try to get them posted for the folks who are not local to us and want to see how pretty our datacenter is.

More pretty than those pictures of DC2 and DC4 posted on that site?
Of course those photos were more closeups than large scale views of the datacenter. Though I remember there were quite a few pictures of a few of the NOC employees at their desks

That would be cool. Will there be lots of pictures of DC5 available once it is opened? Can you get any pictures of the progress of setting it up?

I remember paying for the $299/setup for that machine and got the prices down to $59/mth which I am paying today.

LOL! Well, at that time the beauty of the deal was they waived the setup fees for the machine or else it would have been higher. Things were a little more expensive when that datacenter came about.
