Hello all, i have a Dual Xeon 2.8ghz setup with 2 gigs of ram and 240 gigs of hard drive space. We also run websites off of this server, but only 4 or 5 of them.

While playing Call of Duty United Offensive we sometimes see horrible ping spikes. I mean the entire server will go from a 67 ping average up to 500+ for several minutes when the server is full. We used to have a dedicated box through a different company and saw the same issue at much lower system specs. Has anybody else ran into this problem? Were not fully sure what it could be. If anybody has any tweak suggestions so we can get a better gaming performance please let me know.

Thanks in Advance!

The problem is probably with the website, expeciallly if you have any nuke sites or long mysql quaries.

We actually ran into this same problem with our previous dedicated box from Recon Gamer. That was only a p4 2.0ghz with 512 of ram and no webhosting stuff of any kind, not even IIS.

Its hard to tell, but i don't recomend running any web services on your gaming box at all.

Leave an RDP session open with the task manager showing while you're playing. Once the lag starts switch over to RDP and check your CPU use and see what program(s) are using up all that power.

Rule of Thumb.
Nerver run a web server and game server on the same box!

Sites are slow to load and games run like crap.

Endith Sermon.

I would venture to guess if the game is lagging on two different servers by two different companies/networks it is most likely operator error causing the spikes..

Check yoiur punkbuster settings. Forced screenshots and cvar checking can lag the game server like crazy. And also prior TP's post.....

Yea, never run websites on your gaming box. Your better off just renting a plan from a shared host since there so cheap. If your using a control panel and mysql its twice as bad as just running plain IIS.

Id start by doing that, then if you still have problems its gotta be operator error or mods giving you trouble.
