These are the errors I get in my Event Viewer:

The device, DeviceIdeIdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

An error was detected on device DeviceHarddisk0 during a paging operation.

I got this error on two different servers both are new with new drives in them.

I thought when I saw this problem on one of my server machines I just had a bad drive so I removed it and replaced it but now I'm seeing this same error on another server with the same drive model.
I don't understand this at all. This is all new hardware.

It was a standard Win 2003 server install on them. It really doesn't make sense that this 2nd server could have the same exact drive failure going on.

Does anyone have any ideas ? I wasn't really able to find helpful info on the net about the above errors other than people talking about disk failures but the chances that I have 2 servers out of 2 servers with bad hard drives I thought would be pretty slim.
There must be some other software reason for this error ?

Any help please ?

How hard are you pushing those drives? Are you running out of RAM?

A quick google pulls up some rather interesting info on this error. It seems it happens on Win2k and up including WinXP.

While the drive manufacturers point a finger at MS for the problem, MS points the finger right back it the drive makers creating the vicious circle of blame.

To make a long story short. BACK UP YOUR DATA! And get new drives. In all posts I read while googling, almost every one states the HDDs have died fairly shortly after this error appears

Yeah. I saw the similar stuff. This is so stupid.

Ram use on the machine never gets above 40%

The drives are western Digital 120GB if anyone wants to know what drives to avoid.

Well I was up most of the night trying to find a software solution to my problem.
It started showing those errors more and more in the event viewer then this morning it started crashing.

So. the drive is now being removed and a new one is going in.

Just a note to people here if you ever see the Western Digital 120GB IDE drives avoid them.

This is 2 failures on these new drives within the last few weeks icon_rolleyes.gif

I've been running a WD 250GB for awhile now, haven't had any trouble with it.

Maybe they've run across a bad batch. I've been using WD's for years now with no problems.

I never had a problem with the WD 80GB's I run in other machines. I dunno this kind of stuff ain't too fun. icon_confused.gif

I'll probably be reloaded and semi back to normal by sometime tonight.
