I have two 120gighard drives on my server. Can I wake up the other hard drive not in use and use it as Ram or in a way to help reduce lag in the games?
I dont know much else to use it for. The main harddrive is not even being used up hardly.

Your HD shouldn't be causing your games to lag, unless you do some heavy duty game logging to it.

I suppose you could tell Windows to put your page file on the second drive. That may help if you to a lot of pagefile I/O. But if you do a lot of pagefile I/O you need a RAM upgrade more than anything. icon_smile.gif

Sorry, I was not saying it was lagging the game..I was hoping to use a unused 2nd hard drive to up the performance of the lag or whole server box in general.

Ahhh.... yes it may make some difference depending on the games you are running.

If your running multiple servers, then split the load on the hds, that way you dont have all of the servers trying to wirte to the same hardrive. What game is this anyways and what is the boxes specs?

2.8GHZ Dual Xeon, 2GB ECC Ram, 2x120GB HDs, 2000GB Bandwidth,
I am only running 4 AvP2, 1 Primal Hunt, 2 halo's

These are installed but not all are up being used.
ALIENS VS PREDATOR 2
ALIENS VS PREDATOR 2: PRIMAL HUNT
CALL OF DUTY
COUNTERSTRIKE
HALO PC/CE SWITCHABLE
MEDAL OF HONOR: ALLIED ASSAULT
MEDAL OF HONOR: BREAKTHROUGH
TRIBES VENGENCE
And if it is true that HL2 is multiplayer with out team. I want to add that.

MasterRye,

I am not an expert in that area, but your system seems top-notch, there is little you can do to boost performance. In fact, I would be surprised to hear of any choke or loss attributed to your hardware.

Page memory is amazingly slow compared to RAM -- and in my experience, I have never seen a machine using more than 2GB of RAM. Even if you do allocate more to paging, you could only decrease performance if you have any affect at all.

If you have extra money you want to throw at the problem, you could invest in dual handoff, a more expensive switch, or something along those lines. Otherwise you should be good to go... start worrying about your NEXT machine icon_wink.gif

Thanks,

The other processor should be running from the get-go. If you only see one or two procs in your task manager please open a support ticket.

Bleh, I edited my post and realised I had posted the correct info the first time about the harddrive.

I give up for today...
