pico -w /etc/apf/deny_hosts.rules

Just remove the character strings from there. Then restart, apf -r

Hi, when I start APF in one of my servers I get:

"Starting APF:hostname: Unknown host"

My allow_hosts.rules and deny_hosts.rules files are identical to the ones used in another server and they work ok in there.

Both servers are RHEL 3 and the only difference is that one uses Plesk and the other Cpanel, the problem appears in the Cpanel one.

But iptables -L is showing my rules and I tested putting one IP in deny_hosts.rules and it's working.

Any idea?

does your hostname actually resolve? Sounds like it either isn't setup properly, with a nameserver, or you have problems with your resolvers (in resolv.conf).
