Full Version: Cannot remove namserver IP

After setting up my dedicated server with nameservers ns1.mydomain.com (xx.xx.xx.1) and ns2.mydomain.com (xx.xx.xx.2), I now want to change the nameservers so that ns1.mydomain.com is binded to xx.xx.xx.2 and ns2.mydomain.com is binded to xx.xx.xx.3.

The registrar of ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com have already set the ips to the desired ones and when I ping them I get the correct domain resolution.

My problem is that when I use WHM to remove the original ns1.mydomain.com which was pointing to xx.xx.xx.1, it give me the message:

Sorry, the nameserver ip xx.xx.xx.1 cannot be removing since it is still registered with an ICANN register

(cannot be removing?...love the english grammer icon_smile.gif )

Since mydomain has only been up for a short time and I control all the domains that would use it as a name server, why will it not let me remove the ip? How can I remove it?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

This is an old post, but I figured I would respond to it anyway, since it may help someone in the future.

The only way I found was to edit the entries in the file: /etc/nameserverips

After editing the nameservers in /etc/nameserverips, everything worked as I needed it to.
