Seriously, there are always little hickups, why do people feel the need to post within seconds of a problem?
JustGags
I suppose it's possible that he has something fairly business critical hosted on his server and he'd like to find out whether its a localized or network-wide problem so that he can begin trouble shooting it quicker...

If its quintisential and of the utmost importance (first off...why is he wasting time posting on a forum [read my signature] when he could be on the phone with tech support resolving the issue) to have absolutely ZERO DOWNTIME (which ThePlanet NOT ServerMatrix claims [100% (up) vs 99.99]) then why, WHY not choose ThePlanet? I believe the reasoning has been explained before, no need to waste time saying it again. wink.gif icon_biggrin.gif

I can certainly see your point, but if past events are taken into account, the techs at SM/TP seem to take a bit before acknowledging that there is a problem.

it lets all of us know that were not the only one's having these problems.

We take every complaint seriously, but just because a single server starts getting packet loss does not indicate a global problem. DDOS will usually only affect a single customer or a small segment of customers (usually less than 24). We usually detect the DDOS within a few minutes and are able to attempt mitigation or if mitigation fails then null route the target. Thta's why topics like "Huge packet loss at DC4" don't necessarily present an accurate view of things.

I realize that your first instinct is to seek others having the same problems, but it's usually in your best interest to open a ticket in Orbit (since our techs do not regularly scan the forums, but they are always working their ticket queues in Orbit).

For the record, we ARE with ThePlanet, so expect (in theory anyway) 100% uptime. Yes there is a ticket open, and yes, I spoke to the tech on the phone.

I actually wrote the thread while on hold whilst the tech was checking out the problem.

The reason for a thread like this is to gauge whether this is a global problem or a localized one. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, the explanation for the recent outages, for us and a few others at least, is that someone on our "local" network regularly is DDoS'ed. While this attacked is being "mitigated" our server is offline until this mitigation is successful.
