Hi,

Today i´ve noted that my machine was down, i´ve needed to reboot few times to make a SSH connection and check the system:

10:37:42 up 9 min, 1 user, load average: 46.44, 40.18, 20.86
152 processes: 49 sleeping, 103 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 86.9% user 13.0% system 0.0% nice 0.0% iowait 0.0% idle

When i gave a ps axu I saw many EXIM processes.
I think that SPAMD/SpamAssassin is consuming a lot of resources, but i´m not sure.

I only fix the problem when I did a /sbin/service cpanel stop and manually restarted the services. I turn off spamd/spamassassin too and my usual memory usage decrease 25%.

Now with all the services working fine:
11:42:54 up 1:13, 2 users, load average: 0.72, 0.80, 2.58
101 processes: 98 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 1 stopped
CPU states: 19.3% user 2.7% system 0.0% nice 0.0% iowait 77.8% idle

How can I be sure about where is the problem?
What logfiles shoud i see?
I need some tips!!!

Thanks,
Tiago

spamd and exiscan do use up a lot of system resources. If you have a lot of spam/virii coming in this can be a problem. I'd check in /var/log/exim_mainlog (which is exim's mainlog, obviously), /var/log/exim_rejectlog (to see if mail is being rejected outright by exim) and /var/log/maillog (which is where spamd logs).

Need I upgrade machine to hold this mass spam/viri?
