You would need to contact sales about this, since on the quote page they list only 4.9 as a option. But as covered in a previous thread, it was suggested that you would need to contact sales. They should have no problems throwing it on the box for you.

If not 5.3, I know for a fact they will install 5.1 and you can just cvsup from there.

yep! icon_smile.gif Here is an email from sales :

"Right now we are only installing FreeBSD 5.2 if requested...we will not
install 5.3 yet.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!"

Odd. They told me they would install 5.3, but that they couldn't support it because they weren't trained on it yet.

UD.

so confusing. icon_confused.gif

There should be only kernel level/userspace level system changes from 5.2->53.

As for the support side of things, this should not, in any way, affect our ability to support you with this version.

Our technicians are trained to deal with *nix issues, and if they cannot resolve them, they will be escalated to someone that can handle the issues.

Hope this clears things up.

So any update about freebsd 5.3 in servermatrix servers?
It is possible to request this in new servers? Just plain OS install, no panels no support.

AFAIK they will install 5.2.1 for you on request, but 5.2.1 -> 5.3 upgrades a walk in the park

I have request this. i have put and link of this forum for this but i receive this answer:
"Mr. Laude is incorrect, we can only install 4.10"

So servermatrix install only freebsd 4.10.
I not understand why not install 5.3
It is very stable, secure and work great in the dual xeons.

FYI, i got 5.3 installed a few days ago. told them i do not need officail support (until it is officially supported) other than the hardware/network guarantees.

I got 5.2.1 installed without a problem on two servers. They only got the partitioning wrong both times they installed it at first, so the techs had to redo it.

Besides that, running at 5.3-RELEASE waiting for compile to finish to upgrade to 5.4-RELEASE, never had a problem.

I've had SM install both 5.2.1 and 5.3 on servers, but they have now all been updated to 5.3-STABLE

i just got a new server and requested 5.x

i figured they would install 5.1 like they did on my server a year ago, but i logged un and did a uname -a and sure enough, 5.3-RELEASE.
