make a nub tutorial for meh

jk... You need to place server status so they know the server up... Mine is showing Status:Stopped and my server is working.. but everything good.

.. Nice CP

The buttons should give the status (Start) or (Stop). Are you talking about in the admin side or client side? I think the client side says "Server is running." or "Server is stopped."

what's the default port # ? 10800? cause i'm trying to access it at work and it's not showing page cannot be display and I think in the client side it shows the server is up but the server status is stopped

I think... I can't remember exactly...

Hey moajosh, please explain how you can get 5 game servers on a 2.4 celeron?? How many slots?? Seems like a lot of rubbish to me.

If you set it up right then no worries, I used to run 7 mohaa servers on a redhat 2.4 celeron with no problems.

4 Players each?

Nah, ranged from 12 - 28

Nov 2 2004, 02:42 PM
I cant see how you can get 10servers on a dual xeon 2.4 either without overloading it. I cant even get 10 on a Opteron 242 unless there all like 16man CoD servers.

As for the gamepanel ill try it out on the very few window servers i have, as for how ever many servers you run on what box I wont bash you cause i could care less. But just some helpfull information for you the command "top" is not very accurate, I would recommend you use ps aux.
ps aux will show you the most accurate cpu and Ram usage.
Cheers~
moajosh
Nov 2 2004, 07:53 PM
Well I just use top for an estimate, ps -aux doesn't add the cpu/ram usage of the processes. Or at least it doesn't for me

but I'm still a noob when it comes to linux haha.
klaude
Nov 2 2004, 09:19 PM
Try running `ps auxw`. If you want just cpu and mem use try `ps ax -eo pid,%cpu,%mem, command`.
For what it's worth it's
very dangerous to run any daemon as root. If that daemon gets comprimised or otherwise exploited your whole server could go down. It's best to run your game servers as a user who doesn't have too much access to the system, just to the game server. That goes double for web and mail servers.

ok for some weird reason, it won't let me log in
http://67.19.240.90:81
when i enter user and pw I get
530 Unauthorized Access
Requested access is not granted.
The access you are attempting has not been granted based on the UserId and Password you have entered.
user and pw right... I always use the same user and pw
but when i try it on my dedicated server it logs me in

As vlad says, as with all closed source apps, you can never be sure.
the only organisation i know to do full source code auditing is the openbsd team

Im not one to trust free closed source software, if its free and it open source then it can be great, if its closed source and paid for then Im paying for a service and certain rights go along with that, if its free and its closed source.. you gotta be dubious.
All comes down to trusting the writer, which frankly from the level of professionalism of the website and silly claims of numbers of gameservers per box... my trust is very limited.
thats just me tho

What i was getting at ......
if your that bothered you can use anti virus and anti spyware utils to test it for known stuff!
if your worried that someone has wriiten something themselves, run it on a test bed and use utilities to monitor the apps activity!

Not to mention that the game server control panel is a pretty hot topic right now. I'm sure moajohn doesn't want to give away his source just as we don't want to disribute Cortex source.

And yet we are still waiting for GameHostCP but from what I understand FarCry is very busy and Luke is still out from the hurricanes.

don't hold your breath. IMO it has been "coming out" for a quite a while now, is this to mean updates and bug fixes will be equally as slow? Fair enough they're all busy people with busy lives, but I always think its best to only announce a product once it is ready.

This is a quote from one of the posts:
As far as Iguana and Luke Chavers.. I am not at liberty to discuss what he is working on but i can say he is not working on gamehostcp or Iguana at the moment. And no Iguana was not written in PHP... It uses DB's to store the common settings but thats it.. The built in webserver which was designed from scratch does the work..

I guess so seen as that is from Rich and he knows more about Luke than any of the rest of us do. Not totally sure though. At one time I heard he was working on it but that may have changed since.

We should have announced it once we were a bit closer to the release date like now. Though, a good amount of major setbacks, most of which out of our control, have kept it off the shelves. To comphensate for this, the first version will be free for a month or two - people have been waiting a good while.

I will not provide the source sorry. It just can't work that way because of it's complexity and time involved in the project. I wouldn't want people to make a profit off it without me getting my part.
It's not hard to view what a piece of software is doing. You can use a simple free firewall to see if it's sending any packets to some place that you don't know of, anti-virus software etc. It contains no spyware I can assure you.
The difference between this and gamehostcp is that ours is free

But with that we don't have all of the features,
yet

Heh, actually there is a huge difference between yours and gamehostcp.
But for free control panels basically your competiting with serverdoc/gamepanel.org which both have a big lead on you.
