I am looking for a billing program that can handle server purchases, along with your hosting and reseller accounts. I have been looking at WHMAP but I don't want to limit my self to just the cPanel area.
What does ServerMatrix/ThePlanet use for there backend billing app?
I need to be able to charge for,
Dedicated Servers
Hosting Accounts
Reseller Accounts
Web Designing ( this can stay the old fashion way )
along with maybe VPS/VDS accounts.
It's getting real hard doing this the old fashion way. :-)
Let me know what you all know.
Thanks,
Jesse

I'm sure it's all custom-written for their specific needs, but I'll let a SM/TP representative answer in better detail.

There are a ton of applications for billing. Have you checked out something like modernbill? It can get fairly expensive, but is also pretty flexible in what it can do.

I have looked at ModernBilll , it just does not seem to have that right process for dedicated servers. Are main line of sales is servers.
Any others ?

I think ModerBill will be the closest thing you'll be able to find other than coding one from scratch.
If you decide to have one made I would suggest RentACoder.com if you need to outsource it to a coder.

Describe, in detail, what you're trying to do and those of us that use ModernBill can tell you how to do it in MB or say it's not possible. MB does a lot of stuff, and there may be a way but you just didn't see it, or there may not be a way.
Just doing some quick thinking about it, using the MB Order Wizard and Package Variables should provide the flexibility you need for Dedicated servers. You can easily set it up to choose:
1) CPUs
2) RAM
3) Disk Drives
4) Bandwidth Options
5) Software
Then you can allow clients to log into MB and UPGRADE their Dedicated Server package (maybe adding more RAM).

something free dont mean it sucks or is bad..as long as the programmer is supportive and fixes bugs n issues as found..then so its his orher choice to let it out free..which normaly means opensource etc..
gluck in your findings..

This is might be very true. I need it to be able to handle almost every option SM has when ordering one of their servers, to save the hasel of writing it all out thats basicly what I am after to be honest.

MB is a large application, and can be intimidating to setup.
I recommend you grab the demo off of the ModernBill web site.
Using the MB Order Wizard & Package Variables, you can setup your order form for every option that SM has on their order form. What a client selects determines the pricing. You can set it up to allow a client to UPGRADE that Package Variable at a later date, or to not.
But, the setup of MB can take a bit of time and effort. Just take your time. I wouldn't worry much about most of the options yet. Setup a package with the variables you want just to see if it will work for you. If it will, then play with the other setup options (Tax Zones, Email Addresses, Email Templates, Custom Theme, etc).

We ended up purchasing a custom order addon for WHMAP a while back that does custom orders not only for shared hosting but also custom orders for dedicated servers. Since WHMAP is geared toward cpanel and since we dumped our cpanel server, we may be getting rid of this software along with WHMAP. You may or may not still be considering WHMAP, but this may be an possible solution if you are.

I am lstarting to like this ModernBill setup more... But It is real hard to figure out how to actually setup the features so they can change them some. I might need some help so I can start getting this back on its feet. If you wanna give a hand let me know by posting here or AIM me.

We have our modernbill setup to process orders almost exactly like SM does. It has all the same package variables, and even prorates orders to the first of the month.
