Check your addon accounts (FTP -manager > add FTP Account)
mine stopped working and when adding another one it is also not working
since proftpd upgrade.

nope that wont help, you will have to delete all virtual hosts from the proftpd.conf. (tnx to cpanel.net's bdraco (nick) )
