How do you change the incomming port that cppop uses from 110 to 111?

Thanks
chirpy
AFAIK, you can't. Why do you want to do so?

If you just want to block port 110 from external access and use port 111 for that (which is a little silly since port 111 is for sunrpc) then you could always use iptables to block external connections to port 110 and use redir to redirect external 111 traffic to the local port 110:

iv read about why most are asking to change ports..as it seems some internet providers are blocking this port as well as 25.

this is a silly ass move on ISPs part.

another solution i recomened once is to have your client use webmail instead of outlook and trying to force your server to another port..

What is the point of an ISP blocking port 110 icon_rolleyes.gif

Forcing a client to use webmail seems like a poor solution - for one thing are you going to want to store all their mail on the server forever... that could get expensive, unless you have the resources of google!

I believe the ISPs are blocking port 110 for any requests outside their own network, basically banning anyone from checking mail servers outside their isp's network. Silly move really. Some ISPs here in Canada have blocked port 25 in an attempt to stop spam etc...so they say. It's more of an inconvenience to everyone involved.
Jeff
With 25, the point was to block outgoing spam, which though I also thought was a stupid, inconvenient way to go about doing so, at least had some logic.

What is the logic behind blocking people from checking their mail? What can bad a customer do on 110?

That is really too bad that it is impossible to change cppop to run on a different port, I thought linux and linux apps are perfect. I would really just like to change the 110 port for one subdomain, if possible.

Thanks

LOL, They're only as perfect as their designer wink.gif
Cpanel does not lend itself to customization as well as a non cpanel system would be. It makes the basic admin of a server relatively easy, but if you want extreme control, you'd have to roll and run your own apps...to your specs.

Just a thought, is it possible to install a 3rd party pop program to read cpanels mail files (should be able to)? and run that app on port 111 or whatever?

Good Luck

Well, the redir app that I mentioned allows you to do this very easily indeed. You can keep running cppop on port 110 but also have it effectively running on any other unused port at the same time.

No, I want to use port 110 for something else, so redir will not work for me.

So, what 3rd party pop program that can read cpanels mail files exists?
chirpy
AFAIK, you can't. If you were able to compile another POP server to use cPanel's distribution of mailbox files, you'll likely break your webmail apps, since cPanel has a kludge to keep those (supposedly) in sync.

OK, I am willing to pay $40 (with paypal) to anyone who can come up with a simple solution to this that does not involve changing the configurations of other programs on the server. One of my friends said it was possible, but it requires changing INET files.
