Full Version: Plesk and CPU usage

Well, something strange happens to my CPU usage. My server is still not running any websites but my CPU usage is always around 35% (Dual Xeon/Windows2003).

The only process that is using the CPU resources (task manager) is "named.exe" (Plesk DNS server). Whenever I stop it from the Plesk Control Panel the CPU usage drops to 1% but if I start the DNS, usually after 10min the CPU usages goes up again to 35%.

My feeling is that there is something wrong. Anybody any idea?

Thanks,
SupermanInNY
I have a problem with Statistics.exe that is kicking around 6AM or maybe at 5AM every day and I have to manually kill it.
I'm about to put a scheduled task to kill it.
The 7.0.1 patch was suppose to take care of that, but it is not happening on my server and around that time I get a near server lock as the CPU is hanging on a 100%.

Well the Plesk developers have created a hotfix to work around the BIND/CPU problem, you can find it here:
http://www.sw-soft.com/en/download/plesk/p...win/hf04082006/
but it is not the proper solution, they told me that they are working on it as this is still the main bug for Plesk v7.0 (win).

The answer is simple, we have to wait !

Look at this link:

The problem is only with hyperthread CPUs.

Well, their final solution is that the BIND DNS server has problems with multiprocessing. They told me to assing the affinity of 'Name.exe' only to one processor. But the system doesn't allow me to change it, it actually gives me 'Access Denied'. As far as I know we can't change the affinity of a 'service' process!

Anybody any idea how to change the affinity of a 'service' which is using 'system' as the user icon_question.gif
