Hey folks. I am investigating the possibility of hosting a web site on a dedicated server with ServerMatrix, and I was wondering if I should spring for a 100Mbps uplink, or if the 10Mbps would be sufficient.
The web site I host pushes about 2 gigs per day, less on the weekends, more if I get linked from a popular site. Most of that traffic happens during the daytime hours of American time zones, so the 2 gigs aren't transferred evenly over 24 hours.
The specific server I'm considering is the Dual Xeon 2.4, in case that's relevant.
Anyone out there have an opinion about what would be best?
Also, once I'm up and running, anybody know how I'd check to see what the average/high speeds I'm getting are?
Thanks.

I have never seen the need for 100Mbps upling even with some heavy network loads on the server. The most I've ever seen was 7Mbps and that was only for a few minutes downloading programs with wget to the server, FTP transfers, websites being accessed, and teamspeak (for my personal use, but there was a good 20 people on it on highest codec). Also at that time I was running 16 man armyops 2.0 server and nothing lagged at all from the network. I checked out the bandwidth utilization for the day and 7Mbps was the peak. For just web...pretty heavy web, the most I've seen was 1.5Mbps (again, still more stuff in the background (pop3, smtp, DNS, ftp).
If you really need the 100Mbit uplink, then you will probobly go over your monthly bandwidth anyway, so it would be better to get more servers than just a bigger transfer uplink.

Dual xeon for 2GB per day?
I had a site, had, at the time, a hundred thousand page views a day, used up over 30GB per day... (That was JUST from the HTML/GIF that made up the page. The HTML was compressed too.)
This site, which was PHP/MySQL (with pretty heavy SQL usage) used up only a third to half of the capacity of a Celeron 2.4.

Yeah, it sounds like a lot, but so much of that traffic comes from heavy CGI scripts, and I'm thrashing the weaker machine I've got right now.

Super resellerz here, average 50 gigs a day .. avg transfer of 3mbit/sec.
Friday nights can hit 30 gigs in a few hours and peaks to 13mbit/sec..
doesn't seem like youll need a 100
