FALSE ALARM! lol i think it is all good now.. i did a nslookup on the machine and i got my ns1.*mydomain*.net like i wanted... sooo i think i am good now
ok.. soo i do a ping to ns1.*mydomain*.net and i get my ip i want.. i do an nslookup and i get ns4.matrixcenter.com... what did i screw up in my dns settings? i have ...
mail.*mydomain.net as an host(A) ip ends in 149
ns1.*mydomain.net as a host(A) ip ends in 148
ns2.*mydomain.net as a host(A) ip ends in 147
pop3 as an mx to mail.*mydomain
smtp as an mx to main.*mydomain
the SOA is ns1.*mydomain.net
grr what am doing wrong?
directnic i have the domain set as a name server.. but it also makes me fill in the blanks for the name server?!?! anyone have any experience w/ them?

Are you doing this nslookup from your server or your local machine?
And what is the actual output you're getting? If you're running this from your own computer, it's normal to see nslookup come back with the name of your ISP's (or your internal) primary DNS server. If you're doing it from the server, the primary NS server should be the local server, if it's running a DNS service.

i am doing it from the server itself.. when i do an nslookup from my computer here.. i get a timeout and it doesn't find it at all...
