I am thinking of getting a windows 2003 sever with helm does this setup allow me to have smtp authentication?

I am still having a little trouble on deciding on using plesk or helm aswell

With Helm, it does not come with any mail servers so you would need to decide what to use and see if they support it.

With Plesk, they will install a copy of Mail Enable Standard which supports SMTP Authentication. I would supposed that most mail server would have that option as default

I guess plesk would be better and i may get a linux server some time so it makes sense to have the same control panel

i dont think the basic smtp server in IIS does (dont quote me on that)

does the firewall in plesk affect the remote admin? if it does i guess i can dissable it and configure RRAS

I would consider the MS SMTP server in Windows as a Mail Server..

Helm supports Mail Enable, SmarterMail, Merak, and IMail. AFAIK, those all support SMTP authentication.
