I currently have a Matrix server and am in the process of upgrading to a new better spec server with Matrix. The current server can be found at www.myserver.com. Basically, how do I move the name www.myserver.com over to the new server?

Thanks in advance.

The depends where you have your nameserver information hosted.

If you are using Servermatrix' nameservers, then you probably only have to submit to them the updated information.

If you are using a 3rd-party nameserver (i.e., HN.org, EveryDNS.net, etc), you simply update the domain name IP to the new one.

If you are hosting your OWN nameservers, then, depending on your setup, you either have to update your own nameservers similarly to those cases above, or you need to setup a new NS on the new machine.

Which control panel, if any are you using?

I am using a 3rd party nameserver. The DNS is pointing to ns1.matrix...and ns2.matrix... I assume that stays the same as I am still with Matrix, so what exactly do I change to have the new server at 'myserver.com'

I am using cpanel.

Thanks for your help. icon_smile.gif

Generally you would want to set the TTL value down to a very low amount, and wait about 3 days. After this has propogated out, you would then change the IP address in your DNS and you should be good to.

Thanks, but I am still learning. Can anyone please explain in simple terms that you could have understood when you were first entering the world of servers and linux etc...
