Hey folks,

Long time browser, first time hoster...

I want to run my own nameservers so I can use Virtualmin, which is a free control panel module for Webmin (a free *nix administration tool). I recall seeing the "named" process running when I first installed webmin, but after I tried to get Virtualmin going, I cannot start named at all.

I'm running Redhat Enterprise on one of the SuperCelery machines. I don't know what other information is useful...

I installed the latest release version of BIND (9.23, I think), and even Webmin detects it...I just cannot get the process to start.

Supposedly it will give me debug info if I ask it do, but it doesn't even do that.

Thanks in advance!

I've noticed that Webmin will report named not running, when in fact it is. It has to do with the configuration of the server status page in Webmin. Have you verified that it is not running using 'dig' or http://www.dnsreport.com/ .

Actually, as it turned out, my named.conf file was not formatted properly, I assume...I copied the file from another site (I forget it at this time), and it went ahead and started up without a hitch.

Thank you for the reply, though! I really appreciate it!
