Sorry this is a repost, but I need some quick help.
I'm at a loss as to why some my websites are suddenly asking for a login, while other's appear to be OK. IIS is showing that anonymous HTTP is enabled under the properties of each site.
Example:
www.brenthoard.com -- site is OK
www.homesinrichmond.net -- login?!
www.richmond-va.net -- login?!
I noticed that my brenthoard.com FTP account wasn't logging in correctly, so I opened up Computer Management / Users and noticed that my main account had been set to "user must change password on login". Very odd since I had set this account to have the password never change...
I then decided to move on work on a few sites... uploaded a few files... open the site to see if they worked and **BAM** HTTP authentication required....
I have no clue how to straighten this mess out.
Thanks in advance.

PS: For some reason, I can't copy/paste my website files through terminal services. Windows says the files are protected or in use...

Both sites that you say require a login don't prompt for anything when I hit them
Perhaps one of your local settings? Sounds strange though, with settings changing. Have you locked down your server?

I win. The trick is to cuss at the machine *a lot*. It'll eventually cave to your will and go back to working properly.
Seriously though, I had to retake ownership of all my website files and reassign the IUSR as a read-access user. Don't know how this happened.

Strange.. did you install anything on the machine before this happens ?

Each website should probably have their own iuser account. I believe this is how a server with a control panel would handle this. If you have a control panel, you shouldnt have this problem because it should create and assign these users for you.

No way! The IUSR account is how IIS logs in to Windows. No way does it require multiple accounts, unless you're trying to setup
very specific account requirements.
