Hi,
I guess this is a newbie question but i'd be happy if someone can help me figure this out.
I'm able to login to WHM using root password. but how do i login to cpanel? i dont have a username password for it.
The activation email mentioned to create a user account in whm and use that to login to cpanel . Is this in the "account functions" section?
I tried to create account there but it gave me error on the domain/username i chose.
My current domain is xxx.servermatrix.com. Do I need to get a domain name for the site first?
Appreciate some help on this one! Thanks!

WHM is the server administration and reseller administration module while Cpanel is the client site control panel. As such, you need to create a web account first before you could use cpanel for that site.
It might be a good thing to log into your Orbit account and go through the flash tutorials for WHM and Cpanel to give you some clues of what to do.

At the same time, in this forum, you find a sticky which would have some info of what to do with your machine when you first got it.

Thanks!
Unfortunately the tutorial wasn't loading... its taking a long time and then nothing happens. Wonder if other people are having trouble accessing the tutorials too.
anyway i was able to create a new account for CPanel in WHM but the
domain i had to put there is xxx.185.111.10 cuz thats what it mentioned in one of the posts. This works but I wonder if its the right way.
how do i get my domain name www.mydomain.com to point to this CPanel account?
totally confused *** :-) Hope someone can help or point me to the right tutorial. I have tried searching.
Thanks!!

The tutorials are flash files so you need to use a browser which supports flash to have it work. Try IE.
If your IP address listed in WHM shared IP is the same one which SM provided you then it should be correct.

You should be able to type in your domain when you go to create an account.
account functions -> create a new account
Type in your domain there along with the other specs of the account. You should then be able to log into cpanel using that username and the password you typed in.

thanks, alex!
so if my domain is www.mydomain.com, I'll just put it (without the www).
another thing i was confused was the IP that is returned when i try to ping my "mydomain.com". its not from my block of IPs nor is it any of the servermatrix or theplanet nameservers.
however when i ping "www.mydomain.com" then it returns the correct IP.
any ideas on that?
also my main host name is xxx.servermatrix.com. I presume i should let this be and just put my domain name in the new CPanel account that i created, right ? thanks.
By the way I just wanted to say that this forum seems to be very responsive, fast and helpful especially to newbies. i'm very grateful to the experts out there who take the time to indulge us.
Thanks again.

You would create your account as the domain.com without the www. This would NOT be your hostname.
You set your hostname elsewhere the server where it says to add an 'a' record for your hostname and under server setup. This is usually something like server1.domain.com or whatever you want to name your server.
As for the www vs non-www, check in the dns records to make sure both are listed for that domain after you've created the account. You'll want to check in all dns locations so if you use sm dns servers, you'll need to check there as well as on your server.
