hi all
can someone explain... i got my nameservers up and running...
then i added an account whose domain was pointed to my nameservers (and fully propogated)....
all good so far....
now i was expecting this to just work, but the SM techs say i need to restart bind. i did this and it works....
my problem is i will be using modernbill with automatic account setup.... so this will not work for my clients unless i restart bind? should i do this daily as a cronjob?
i thought it was meant to make things easier!
thanks all

when i add customers ..i just add them.. and walk away

no restarting bind needed

A restart is not necesssary. However, at the very least, bind (named) must reload its configuration if there is any change to the DNS zones. If you have some sort of control panel, that is done automatically if you add the new user (with new domains) via the control panel. If your setup is done correctly, there is no need for you to any extra work. Of course you can also run "rndc reload" to reload named configuration if you really want.

Do you get any error messages when bind restarts or does it complain that bind can't restart?

I remember having something like this a while ago. Run /scripts/fixrndc (or something like that!)

hi all
i have just removed the file /etc/nameddisable which will hopefully sort things out. has anybody else had to do this? i get only one result for a google search on 'nameddisable' !!

i am hoping for the best...
