Hi I newly hired a superceleron 2.4 at ServerMatrix, and I would like to move one of my domains ( registered with GODADDY) to here to host approx. 100 websites here.

My domain which is going to host other domains is : aybilisim.com (registered at GODADDY )

I tried to set up my name servers as NS1.AYBILISIM.COM and NS2.AYBILISIM.COM, and gave firts two IPs as the static IPS.

I think I did welll up to this point.

Now, ( I feel I do something wrong here) I go to GODADDY control panel , and tried to enter NS1.AYBILISIM.COM and NS2.AYBILISIM.COM as the name servers.

GODADDY has rejected them saying: there in not a TLD located on these addresses.

Can some one tell me what is wrong ? How can I end this nightmare and host some domain here ?

i didn't get a clear impression from your post that you did a complete setup of the nameserver daemon on your sever BEFORE you went to godaddy, so that of course is the first step (setting up the A records, the NS records, the SOA etc.) You may have done all that - I couldn't tell. If not, then theres much more to do before heading over to godaddy.

in godaddy, you have to login, click your domain, expand the "Domain Host Summary" box, then click "Click here to see details or to modify."

now add ns1.yourdomain.com
and enter the IP,
then ns2 and the second IP

only after adding the ns1/2.yourdomain.com entries (with IP addresses) can you go and set the primary and secondary nameservers in the " Nameservers Summary".

Once you enter NS1 and NS2 of your domain at go daddy with an IP, it's an assumed those will become your DNS servers.

Actually, once you give them your nameservers IP, they won't let you go back and punch in your NS servers in the field above.

Thank You all for your explenations, I am a little relaxed now since I know that I am not alone icon_biggrin.gif

My system is SUPERCELERON 2.4 an REDHAT ENTERPRISE running on it, and CPANEL as the WHM.

I read most of the messages here at the forum to find the right start, but hera I am icon_sad.gif

When the server set up, I first go through SETUP PROCESS which WHM takes me to. I entered my DNS SERVERS' names as NS1.AYBILISIM.COM and NS2.AYBILISIM.COM assigned IP addresses, added A entries for both, and from DNS FUNCTIONS in WHM I added an A entry for ay1.aybilisim.com ( which I gave this name to my server instead of something.servermatrix.com).

I think this is all here, then I go to my GODADDY account, login, manage domains, clicked to my domain, change nameservers...

I forgot to mention AYBILISIM.COM has been hosted on somewhere else already, it is an active domain. When I tried to give my new name servers GODADDY rejects them, when I try to enter them in format : 67.xx.xxx.xxNS1.AYBILISIM.COM it says : Unavailable error in field Host name1 , when I try to enter them in this format : NS1.AYBILISIM.COM67.xx.xxx.xx it says : Nameserver 1 has an invalid TLD.

I am stuck right here, If I solve all these I will prepare a guide for very newbies like me icon_smile.gif

Now can you please help, I hope I did not forget to write everything .

i think you're misunderstanding my instructions. in godaddy, go to manage domains, pick your domain and go to "domain host summary", choose "click here to see details" (if that is showing), then you will see five form fields, one for the hostname of your primary name host (which you should specify as "ns1"), with the AYBILISIM.COM already shown. under it are four fields for the IP address components, in which you should enter your first IP. click "add" to add another, enter "ns2" this time and then specify your second IP.

your not supposed to just stick the IP right up against the hostname :)

what is your server's ip address, i will try some dns queries and try to make sure your server is setup correctly to be a domain name host.

if you can't get it working, you can just ask servermatrix to setup the DNS entries in their nameservers, and set them in godaddy to ns1.servermatrix.com etc, save yourself the headache

Hi jswhiting, thank you for helping, I think I see different things here at GODADDY
here is what I see:

My server's IP address is : 67.18.233.18

Thank You,

you're just going to the wrong section in the godaddy management. see "domain host summary", then "domain hosts"

this is VERY different from setting the "namerservers," as you are showing in your screenshot.

doing a few DNS queries to your IP, it looks correct for AYBILISIM.COM but not for NS1.AYBILISIM.COM - it looks like you have a whole zone entry for "ns1" instead of just a host entry, all you need is an A record for ns1. you aren't doing any subdomains of ns1, are you?

i dont use cpanel so i can't tell you how to fix that, maybe you know what to do or someone else can't point you in the right direction there

Thank you jswhiting !

I have never noticed such a place in the control panel of GODADDY ! till today.

Now I entered them and going to try to find what is wrong with the A RECORD thingy...

Thank you very much again,

Cheers,

all you need is an A record for NS1 and and A record for NS2, each with different IPs (the IPs you entered in godaddy).

don't create an entire domain definition for ns1/2 as you currently have.
