This time I want to ask you if I choose FREBSD or RedHat enterprise3. Please tell me why should I choose BSD and not REDHAT.

There's a lot of work to running your own server. Most of the people here have RHE so you'd be more likely to get help if you used that, but if you're looking for a good reason to use FreeBSD.. well, that's the closest OS to the Mac OS. icon_biggrin.gif

The only thing that I see better in freBSD is that I can download it and install it in my house and this way I will have the same OS in my server that in my house and this should be very usefull to make tests...

I have read that freeBSD is faster stronger and the securest os but I donīt know if this is just sciencefiction

One advantage of Redhat Enterprise is that you will have the OS Update and Kernel patch support from Tech Support here but with FreeBSD you are pretty much on your own for those.

Of course if you know what to do then that is not a big issue but if you don't, any assistance from tech would definitely be helpful.

Go with FreeBSD, it may be a bit more difficult to learn but it will benefit you in the long run.

Two of my recent servers are FreeBSD. It is easy to install PHP with extensions on FreeBSD, just select want you need. In Linux, you have to do depend on command line to configure what you need.

Other than the easy software install from ports (this is one time process, i don't mind spending some time to setup these from source in Linux) i don't know if FreeBSD is better.

I read FreeBSD can handle high server loads... Is it true ?

At times i think about switching back to Linux, Linux is supported by many data center and tech support knows it better than FreeBSD, i found some DC even charge for FreeBSD, may be they have to get some one outside for installing it, and there will be no support

Even TP and SM provide very OLD version of FreeBSD...

Yahoo used FreeBSD. When i take FreeBSD, i thought it will be better as Yahoo use it for themself. But is that a reason to use FreeBSD, may be not. Microsoft uses Windows icon_smile.gif
