I'm trying to set up a few sub domains but can't seem to figure this one out. I would like to set folder.domain.com but when i click to enter the subdomain it goes to www.domain.com/file/index.php?=folder. I would like the address bar to remain and display the sub domain. the only way to use the sub domain is to type it in. i want to click on site and have it work.
I've messed around with the domain admin and cpanel redirect but nothing works. can anyone tell me about the mx record aspect. this setup looks to be close to what i need. mail.domain.com. I noticed this marked 10? what does that mean.

Are you using Plesk or Cpanel ?
As for the '10' in the 'MX', do not worry about it. I would supposed that you set up only 1 mx record so the issue of priority is not an issue. It would just be a redundant piece of information. It would be deemed useful if you have two mx records then the one with the lowest number would get the first priority.
How did you set up the subdomain ? It might be best to just set it up as you would the main site so everything would be distinct instead of being treated as a folder. What you are facing might be because the DNS did not propagate yet for the subdomain and just revert to the first site on that IP which probably is your main site.

i use cpanel for redirection but might need to take it off. you can check out what I'm talking about by looking at plugstar.com, and newyork.plugstar.com. DNS propagate should be fine; i set up few days ago.

Don't do any redirect. The subdomain would redirect to the defined folder on its own. It might seems that the redirect supercedes the subdomain.

i have done everything to get these sub domains to work but like I said before the subs only work when i type in the address. clicking on a hyperlink brings up the directory folders. Any other suggestions. I give up.

I tried texas.plugstar.com , it apparently seems that the DNS was set up as a redirect instead of a subdomain.

Since you are using Cpanel, post it on
http://forums.cpanel.net and see how it goes.

It is probably an issue of the direct from the domain to the PHP link which might be the issue and not so much an issue of the cpanel subdomain issue.
