Anyone know anything about this? I just happened to go to the Plesk site and saw it mentioned in the Support section, then read about it and it seems really cool. Any chance this will be offered by SM and/or it might be able to replace current Plesk 7? (It's currently in RC1 at the moment.)

I guess we know once they go stable. Never knew SM to go with anything less than stable. So it would just be a matter of time.

Is Plesk 7 Reloaded considered as an upgrade (read 'Free') or an add-on (read '$$$')?

That's a very good question, and not one I have found a definite answer to. It doesn't touch on it on the Plesk site. However, in the sidebar on the information page, it states that Plesk Reloaded is version 7.1, which to me signifies that it may just be a hyped update (hopefully free) with some cool new features I've been desiring.

Especially the site preview feature?

It's Plesk 7.1 ... and a free upgrade for Plesk 7.x users. It could really have been called Plesk 8 given the number of enhancements to it, but they decided against that and are trying to keep numbers sensible. I've been using 7.1 for almost a month now I think and it is a very good piece of software, they've certainly listened to their users wishes on this one.

That's wonderful, thank you for clarifying.

Just thought I'd add something ... whilst it is a free upgrade to Plesk customers, SM/TP might not pass this on as I believe a license upgrade will be needed.

As long as SM/TP pays the monthly fee for whatever licenses we have, we should get whatever upgrades come along. That's my understanding of the licensing model.

SM/TP will get free upgrades for 1yr from purchasing the license, as do all customers/partners ... but it's entirely their choice if they pass that on to us, especially since they will need to install a license update (I think, haven't had a chance to test yet).
However, when I ordered my first server I checked and was told that we will definately get minor updates free ... and since standard UNIX version numbering says 7.0->7.1 is a minor update I don't see them being able to get around this one. It is really Plesk 8 though, whatever they chose to call it.
I did ask them one time if the upgrade from Plesk 6.5 (Windows) -> 7.0 would be free, they said that if they still offer Plesk at that time it would likely be a nominal-fee they charge to install the new key, something like $10 perhaps.

JUST RELEASED!
Plesk 7 Reloaded just released!
I am just wondering now...will SM/TP use Plesk 7 Reloaded with Plesk installs or must I request that seperate or will they just take a while until they have it?

It uses different licenses to Plesk 7 so it might take them a while to get around to it ... if they do.

I would suspect that there would be a one-time installation change because of the re-issue of the keys but it probably be small.
The thing is that we do not know what kind of arrangement ThePlanet has with Plesk. Because they are big, they might come out with some non-conventional contracts which may not have the same terms as what normal customers have.

Anoyone tried installing Reloaded yet/know the situation with the key upgrades? I'd try installing it to see what happened but I'm at work and can't SSH. I'd also log a support ticket but I thought it would be easier to ask here

I'm running Plesk 7.1 on a non-TP box now ... it's very very nice, but then again I knew that already since I've been testing it around 6 weeks now.
From what I can gather you'll need to wait for SWsoft to enable TP's 7.1 licenses, however, they shouldn't need installing manually with the new license auto-updater, so there shouldn't really be a need for a fee to upgrade ... we'll need official word on this though.
I'll be upgrading some more servers later today, including a couple TP ones (but I own the licenses), and I have a support contract across all my licenses with SWsoft so I'm relatively safe if they're buggy - although they seem fairly good in this respect.

Please don't upgrade if you are using the Zends at all...they will screw up. If you choose too..uninstall the Zends, install 7.1 and then install the Zends again.

Yesterday I opened a ticket asking if I could safely upgarde to Plesk Reloaded using the installed license, this is the reply I received:
"We're still working out the logistics of this.... as we've had a LOT of problems with customers upgrading and breaking things, so we need to do quite a bit of testing...
Please let us know if you're still wanting this done at this time..."
Did anybody successfully upgrade? Are the license provided by TP/SM upgradable?

I asked once again to support if the Plesk license I'm using with 7.0.3 is usable to upgrade. This it the reply:
"We are awaiting an update from plesk on the license situation for the 7.1"
Since I'm going to move about 100 domains to the Plesk server I would like to upgrade before I do the migration. What do you think, should I try to upgrade or wait for a response about the license?
If Plesk 7.1 doesn't work, can it be removed and downgraded again to 7.0.3?
Thank you,
abo

Yes you can. Just backup your 7.03 key. As an additional caution, backup your psa database if you already have customers on there. Then do the upgrade, if it doesnt work, rpm -e all psa related files. Then reinstall your 7.0.3 and mv the 703 key back.
