I set up my private DNS servers and was able to register them at the registry level. However - do I need to be concerned about reverse lookup zone setup? Does WHM takes care of this or do I have to do it manually somehow?

Reverse DNS can only be done at the IP owners equipment level unless they delegate it to you. However SM does not support that and you need to submit a domain admin ticket to have the reverse DNS set up for you.
