Full Version: Domains don't work after removing reseller - SM PLEASE HELP
The Planet Forums > System Administration > DNS Hosting

I've deleted reseller and removed his IPs from WHM (except from 'Manage Nameserver IPs' where it didn't allow me, because they are still registred with domain registrar).

After that* - ALL domains on server stopped to work! I am talking about my domains, under root account, which are using my nameservers.

Some results from dnsstuff and similiar:
Timed out getting NS data from parent server
Traceroute: Don't have a destination IP address
Ping: could not determine the IP for domain

Note that I didn't touch any other IPs/nameservers - didn't touch anything at, all except reseller and his IPs/nameservers which were deleted. And all this was done from WHM - nothing was edited from shell...

Two hours passed, still no help from SM support...

*I suspect this caused error. In time before the problem, I also copied 3 accounts from another server, and created one domain as addon domain. But these are usual stuff, so I shouldn't suspect it?

Is your reseller using the same IP as any of your site or your nameservers ? If so, it could explain what happened.

Are other of your sites able to be access using their respective IP address ? If they are, it is likely that the DNS server has been messed up. Use the rebuild function for the DNS in WHM and see if it fixes anything. Restart BIND too.

Use http://www.dnsreport.com on some of your domain names and see if they resolved.

Use the DNS Zone Edit to make the necessary changes to the DNS zones as and where necessary.

On the side note, this does not seems to be an SM tech support issue since the sites set up is your responsibility.

Eddy, thank you for posting!

No. Reseller had two IPs that were used just for his nameservers.

No, all sites don't work for me a don't resolve at dnsreport.
Server was rebooted and nothing happens.

All DNS zones are ok - all remaining domains on server are using my nameservers (and they are under root account) and their DNS zones are the same as before.

But they should at least respond, and if not give any advice, they should tell it is not their responsibility. Or say how much would it cost to correct this problem.

Can the sites be accessed using the IP address ?

Try SSH and doing a /scripts/fixeverything and see if it does anything.

Yes, they were.

But short after reboot, server become uneccessable. I've requested another reboot, support said on 07/06/04-01:07 that they are going to reboot and check. Still nothing and server offline.

Uhh, morning has broken here and cutomers will now start to ring icon_sad.gif

Ah, then recheck the DNS Zone files on your machine again. It seems that what you have done might have knocked off your DNS servers.

Thanks Eddy for your help. I am still waiting for SM to bring server online.

Hehe coincidence, several days ago I downloaded BatchIT pro trial:

and now I found its yours web/company icon_smile.gif
eddy2099
Oops. I thought I hid my company's URL very nicely here. icon_redface.gif

Guess if the server is not back up by now, something serious must have happened.

This system is giving I/O errors when attempting to access the hard drive.  We've tried everything short of a hard drive swap and have narrowed the problem down to the hard drive itself.
Please submit a hardware ticket via Orbit (referencing this ticket) so that we can get you a new hard drive as soon as possible, as it appears the hard drive has in fact failed.

I've never experienced hard disk failure before. How you get your data restored when it happens?

ps.
Is there any chance that DNS issue has something with bad hard drive, or I have so much luck to have two separate problems?
