One of my sites wants to send mail through out server.

These are virtual sites, with user accounts created under each site.

Lets say the domain name is
ABC.com

and the user account is
news

So the email address news@abc.com could be forwarded to another email address.

If I don't forward it, how do I send and recieve email from that account through a pop?

I set up the email as just the domain in the DNS.

Chances are I don't have something set up correctly (I'm a little new at this stuff).

You need to have the DNS A records. And you need to have an MX record for the email. It can be:

domain.com very high www.domain.com

or

domain.com very high mail.domain.com

Then mail can be recieved by using a mail client like outlook express. Just put in domain.com or mail.domain.com as your incoming and outgoing mail servers...depending on how you setup your mail record above.

that is what I thought. then you need a login name and password (what ever was set up for an account).

I think that is what they are doing and it does not work.

It does not work for me either.

I used a differnt domain name on my site

I can receive mail just using that domain and it prompts me for the login info and works fine (in this case webmaster@domainname.com)

When I go to send, I have my mail program set up to send to the same domain name, but it times out with and says "server not responding"

Do I need something else running to support outgoing email?

If so, Can I set it up so that not just anyone can send email out my server?
